HIGHER DENSITY FOR CAMBIE CORRIDOR?

Cambie St. could be in for some major changes, thanks to the success of the Canada Line. Vancouver City Council is considering a proposal to transform Cambie from 16th Avenue to Marine Drive into 5 "transit-oriented" neighbourhoods.

The 30 year plan would see the the majority of single family homes sitting on large lots currently occupying the corridor replaced with condo developments of varying size depending on location.

Four storey condo developments would be permitted in the north near 16th Ave, up to 12 storeys at Oakridge, and 36 storeys at Marine Drive.

Here's what the Vancouver Sun is reporting regarding the proposal,

"The plan, which could see as many as 14,000 new residents in the corridor by 2040, would capitalize on the new Canada Line and result in taller buildings lining the corridor. It is being supported by developers and hailed as visionary planning by some of the city's leading architects.

Planning director Brent Toderian described it to council as "the largest and most complex area planning exercise in the city's history." It covers the Riley Park, Oakridge, Langara, Marpole and South Cambie neighbourhoods."

If you own one of these four houses near 64th ave and Cambie, you probably have your fingers and toes crossed that the plan goes ahead.
