HATE YOGA? WAYS TO GET FIT NEAR CAMBIE ST. THAT DON’T INVOLVE THE Y WORD


Just because the rest of Vancouver loves yoga, that doesn't mean you have to jump on the bandwagon! For some people, yoga just doesn't make the cut and there’s nothing wrong with that. Posing in difficult and sometimes down right awkward positions in a hot and over crowded studio is not everyone’s idea of fun, but fear not, if you live near Cambie Street and want to get some exercise while avoiding the dreaded 'Y' word, there are plenty of great options for you. The great news is we’ve done the hard work for you and found some of our favourite new spots. 

Pleasant Fitness Classes: Mount Pleasant Community Centr

Head a few blocks east of Cambie and you’ll find a variety of different classes to satisfy your fitness appetite at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre, located at Main and Kingsway. Here you can immerse yourself in many different kinds of fitness classes and avoid yoga altogether. Take up a morning boot camp class, or enjoy specialized classes such as "mommy burn." Whatever your lifestyle and fitness level you’re bound to find something here that will satisfy your exercise needs.

The great thing is you are welcome to just drop in (or book in advance if you want) and with classes such as Pilates, Zumba, or athletic circuit training you’ll have your beach body in no time! 

iDance Studios: Dance Your Way to Fit

 

What could be more enjoyable than dancing? If you agree, iDance Studios might be just the place for you. Located at Main Street and 5th Avenue, you can dance your way to fitness in no time.  Try Dancer's Body Bootcamp if you’re a beginner and want to ease yourself in. If you’re more the ‘jump in the deep end’ kinda person then try the intense calorie burning Zumba, who new burning calories could be so fun! Release some tension with Hip Hop or get in the groove and express yourself with Lyrical, dance in a group class or opt for private classes, the options here will work for pretty much everyone. Remember to just have fun and dance like nobody is watching and before you know it you’ll have the body you’ve always dreamed of. 

Work Harder With CrossFit

At the corner of 6th Street and Cambie you’ll find fitness classes that will really get you working. If you dislike yoga because it's too simple and doesn't feel like a hard enough work-out, CrossFit might be just the ticket! CrossFit borrows its methods from the strength and conditioning programs used for in the police academy, which means you're sure to get the best workout available.
