EMPTY HOMES TAX DECLARATION

2018 property declarations are due next Monday February 4th, so if you haven’t declared, best get to it.

Each year, every owner of residential property in Vancouver is required to submit a property status declaration to determine if their property is subject to the Empty Homes Tax.

Failure to declare by February 4, 2019, will result in your property being deemed vacant and subject to a tax of 1% of its assessed taxable value, and nobody wants that.

So how do you declare you ask? It’s just five easy steps:

  1. Head over to -> https://vancouver.ca/eht-declare
  2. Click “Submit Declaration”
  3. Enter your Folio Number and Access Code (you’ll find these on your Property Tax Notices) then enter your name and contact deals
  4. Select the Status of your property (Principal Residence, Rented, Eligible for Exemption, Vacant) and provide any additional information
  5. Submit your declaration

And you’re done, too easy if you ask me!

If you have any questions during the process there’s live chat available on the vancouver.ca website, or pop down and visit the friendly folks at Vancouver Hall.

Remember declarations are due Feb 4th and that’s just around the corner.
