YOUR VANCOUVER OF THE FUTURE

What do you want the future of the Eastern corridor and Via-ducts to look like in the future. ??

The City of Vancouver is holding a competition of ideas.

They are asking the public to vote or comment on more then 100 applicants ideas in the  re:CONNECT competition

Some of the entries include;

• Building a gondola connecting False Creek Flats with Stanley Park.

• Converting False Creek Flats into an artificial hill called False Hill, with room for residential, commercial, and industrial activities.

• Extending False Creek ferry service into False Creek Flats with a network of canals.

• Designating the Dunsmuir Viaduct for cars and commuter cyclists, and turning the Georgia Viaduct into an elevated greenway for pedestrians and recreational cyclists, like New York City’s High Line.

• Demolishing the viaducts and blanketing the area with green space while maintaining essential traffic routes.

• Using the undersides of the viaducts to create a lush hanging garden.

• Flooding the flats back to False Creek’s 1898 shoreline, leaving 800 fixed and floating islands and 1,500 bridges in the flood zone.

Of course, one of the options states simply, “Please, Leave the Viaducts as they are!”
