MARPOLE MAKEOVER

Big Changes are coming to the neighbourhood that many Vancouverites just breeze through on the way to the airport. Yup, Marpole is on the verge of a development renaissance.

Marpole is one of Vancouver's oldest, most historic and established neighbourhoods, although few people (even its loyal residents) would disagree that it could use a bit of a makeover. With a number of development projects about to break ground, the South Vancouver skyline is soon going to look very different.

This week, Vancouver City Council approved a plan to redevelop  the Safeway site at Granville and 70th Avenue. The project will include a brand spankin' new Safeway store and 3 residential condo towers (16 storey, 15 storey and nine storey respectively).

Read more about the development HERE in The Province.

Just around the corner on Marine Drive, Century Group is in the presale process for their Marpole development, HQ Living. This contemporary style concrete low-rise offers reasonable prices (starting in the $200s).

Meanwhile, a bit farther east expect to see some major condo development around Cambie and Marine as a plan to increase density all along the Cambie corridor has been approved by the city (do some homework and read about it HERE). Towers as high as 36 storeys could be scraping the sky, as the city looks for ways to take advantage of the success of the Canada Line Skytrain.

It may have been overlooked in the past, but Marpole is on the verge of a massive transformation.
