DESIGN TRENDS & THE YEAR AHEAD

Things are just starting to gear up again in the Vancouver market, and as we're beginning to see more product hit the shelves, it also means that we get to peek inside some pretty awesome spaces that people have created for themselves. As the design gears in our heads start to turn with new ideas, we found ourselves wondering what might be in store for the year ahead. So, we've scoured the web and come up with our predictions for ten of the hottest design trends for 2017.

Feast your eyes below & let us know what you think!

1) Greenery

Greenery was named Pantone's colour of the year for 2017, so expect to see lots of leafy, natural hues. Meant to conjure feelings of refreshment and revitalization, take a breather from the complexities of city life and find sanctuary in your urban jungle.

2) Literal Greenery

Take the greenery trend a step further by adding some plant friends to your home. Adding houseplants to your space instantly lends a feeling of serenity, and can even purify the air.

3) Energy Efficiency

This one is greenery, but in a more figurative sense. We're seeing net zero homes grow in popularity, which is good for the environment, and for your wallet.

4) Artisan Goods

While there is a time and place for Ikea’s Swedish pragmatism, we’ve always been suckers for things of the local and handmade persuasion.

6) Cork Flooring

While cork might conjure up images the notice board in your high-school homeroom, this material is making a stylish comeback. It’s also durable, anti-microbial, a thermal and acoustic insulator, as well as sustainable. Plus it comes in some pretty sexy variations. Win-win-win-win-win.

7) Custom Vanities

Why have the same prefab vanity as everyone else? Thrifty homeowners are finding old chests of drawers and vintage consoles and turning them into one-of-a-kind vanities.

9) Romantic Bedroom Colours

While the ultra-modern, ultra-sleek look has been in for awhile, rich and intimate bedroom pallettes appear to be making a comeback.

10) Voice Activated Assistants

Welcome to the future, folks. As the popularity of the smart home continues to rise, more companies are coming out with smart home gadgets. This device from Google listens passively in the background for commands that start with 'Ok Google', and can be used to control things like lighting, heating, and various electronics.
