CAMBIE & W.GEORGIA. THE CULTURAL HUB OF VANCOUVER?

Next week, Vancouver city councillors will mull over a unique proposal to create a 'Cultural Hub' in the downtown core hosting outdoor concerts and other events.

The location at Cambie and West Georgia is also where the Vancouver Art Gallery has proposed moving to.  The three acre site, which is currently a parking lot (as pictured below), would house the VAG, a public plaza (which would front onto Georgia) and an office tower.  Temporary road closures around the site would be used to accomodate the crowds during events.

The site was already used during the Olympics as the 'Downtown LiveCity' venue hosting concerts by Canadian performers such as alternative hip-hop artist, Buck 65, country crooner, Jessie Farrell and indie rockers, Jets Overhead.

I think it's a geat idea.  During the Olympics we proved that we can party peacefully and deal with road closures/detours...and can't we all agree that outdoor concerts are the best.
