THE VANGLO HOUSE DEBUT

Back in February, Blu introduced you to the not-yet-completed Vanglo House at 135 East 17th Ave. It’s no secret we’re huge supporters of the Vanglo Sustainable Construction Group's state-of-art, green home, and we couldn’t be happier to finally be able share their incredible finished product with the world.

Wow right? Now, this is obviously a tremendous looking home, but what makes Vanglo’s masterpiece “green”? Well, to begin with…the team re-used and recycled many of the materials from the original teardown on the property. From there they set out to blow away the requirements of the current BC Building Code by being 25% more energy efficient. In fact, the Vanglo home is 1 of just 3 Energy Star qualified homes in all of Vancouver. To achieve this off-the-charts efficiency, Vanglo installed triple pane windows, Blue Skin VP membrane, and superior insulation. But what really sets it apart, is that the Vanglo House is as beautiful as it is sustainable.

A walk through the two-story stunner reveals custom milled cabinetry, polished concrete floor, and in-floor radiant heating. The Chef's kitchen comes fully equipped with high-end appliances including:  Liebherr, Viking, and Wolf.  It’s fully wired for media, and has an engineered exterior fibre cement panel that ensures low maintenance upkeep. But the pièce de résistance has to be the 300 sqft outdoor lounge on level 2. This private space has an almost spa-like feel to it, but we foresee a dance party (or three) taking place in the near future. And because the Vanglo House is designed with an inverted floor plan, maximum enjoyment of this lounge is guaranteed.

To help spruce up the space for viewing pleasure, Vanglo enlisted the incredible talents of Gaile Guevara and Laura Milling of Modern604. These ladies managed to bring out the best of the Vanglo House, using staging materials sourced from all our favourite local businesses. Stunning – isn’t it?

But the ultimate shout-out has to go to visionary Architect, Oliver Lang. His goal for the Vanglo House was to strike a fine balance between simple elegance and engaging playfulness. And honestly, all Blu can say is bravo Oliver, bravo!
