LOFT LOVE: SARAH THOMAS MOFFAT
To many Torontonians, Vancouver really is paradise. A proverbial, leisure land with majestic mountains, the ocean and all that clean, crisp air. For Sarah Thomas Moffat, these cliches have little to do with her recent move to East Van. For this talented DP and Underwater Camera Operator, Vancouver offers abundant opportunities to further the role of women in Film and Television in Canada, and beyond. But making a cross-country transition isn’t easy, and house hunting had to happen amidst a crazy work schedule that takes Sarah from bustling cities to the backcountry and beyond. Luckily for her, (and us) a little Internet peruse led this first time buyer to Vancity Lofts.
Here Sarah was able to narrow down the kind of space she was interested in, and discovered after just one phone call that she had an instant connection with our Dan Griffin. Over tea, the two decided to hit the market hard; viewing 5 unique lofts on day 1. Sarah was jubilant. Dan had listened to her needs and wants, and introduced her to a neighbourhood that suited her artsy, progressive style. Some call it SOMA, others Brewery Creek, but Sarah had a sneaking suspicion that the area East of Main between 1st and 7th would soon be called HOME.
Just 2 days before Christmas a slightly nervous Sarah and a cool, collected Dan made an offer on a modern, one bedroom loft they spotted on their second property tour. The space - located in the coveted Jacobsen Building - checked all the boxes. And that night their offer was accepted. Sarah’s cross country search had come to an end. Now, we know it’s our job to wrap this story up with something clever that encapsulates Sarah’s excitement, but we'll leave that to her.
