BONE STRUCTURE TECHNOLOGY - MUCH MORE THAN BARE BONES!

Here at Blu we love new and creative thinking in all aspects of our industry, from design and marketing to renovation and construction. So, when we found out about the good people at BONE Structure and their unique approach to construction and design, we were certainly intrigued.

What is a BONE Structure System, you might ask? It is a structure manufactured with galvanized steel, using the same technology that is used to create airplanes and automobiles. BONE Structure has taken this technology and applied it to the construction and design of both residential and commercial properties. Homes can be customized from a variety of templates - each structure is then designed using 3D software and each piece of steel required for the project is laser cut.  This leads to fast on-site assembly as each element and piece is already precision made – no cutting, welding, or re-working necessary.

Although the words ‘steel construction system’ might conjure up images more akin to Batman and Gotham City than of a family home, there are a number of practical benefits to this type of construction system.  Plus, all of these homes look pretty darn dreamy – we’ve already fallen in love.

Perhaps the biggest advantage is the longevity and durability of the construction material. Galvanized steel is extremely durable, and will not bend, crumple, or buckle over time. You won’t have to worry about rot or mold either – future generations can inherit your home without having the burden of fixing costly structural defects that may appear over time in other construction materials.  Your steel sanctuary will be so durable that it can withstand severe climactic conditions as well as provide stability during earthquake or high-wind situations. Your home is an important investment – perhaps the most important investment that you will make in your lifetime. So, it makes sense to invest in something that will last for generations to come.

A secondary benefit to this type of construction is the architectural liberty that you will have when it comes to designing your home. The Bone System allows for spaces measuring up to 25 feet to be built without the need for load-bearing columns or walls. Are you yearning for wide-open spaces or floor-to-ceiling windows? You can have ‘em! You can also easily reconfigure the internal walls of you home – perfect for adapting your space to the needs of your family as they change over time. With the ever-growing popularity of multigenerational homes and the onset of dwellings like laneway houses taking hold in our city, we think that this type of forward-thinking by BONE Structure is right on point.

Your steel home with also be extremely high-performance. As the folks at BONE Structure put it: “interrelated features such as indoor air quality, mold free environment, indoor-outdoor connection, air tightness, natural light, thermal comfort, and environmental stewardship are at the core of our design principles not an afterthought”. This energy efficient approach will reduce the cost of your energy consumption while also being environmentally friendly. Unlike other construction materials, steel is recyclable. And because each piece of steel is precision cut, nothing is made that isn’t used which keeps construction waste to a bare minimum.
